Cleveland Drivers: 1990-1999

Cleveland first ventured into drivers in the mid-90s, a significant leap for a brand previously known for its wedges under the Roger Cleveland name. In fact, Roger himself then moved to Callaway, where he focused on wedge design.

In 1996, Cleveland introduced its first driver lineup with the VAS, VAS Ti Diamond, and VAS Ti Square. These drivers featured small head sizes when compared with modern drivers, along with a ridge on the sole for optimal turf interaction.

In 1999, the QuadPro driver was launched. Featuring a flat sole and a lower 8.5º loft angle, it was built for flat ball flights and optimal distance off the tee.

The new millennium saw Cleveland expand its driver range. In 2000, the QuadPro series was extended with the introduction of the QuadPro Ti — a lightweight titanium iteration of the driver to maximize swing speed and distance.

The iconic Launcher series was released in 2002. This comprised two versions, the Launcher 330 and 400, featuring different head sizes to suit different skill levels.

The following year saw the introduction of the Launcher 460. Designed with a whopping 460cc club head, it added significant forgiveness and distance.

Throughout the decade, Cleveland continued innovating with models like the Hi Bore (2006) and Hi Bore Monster XLS (2009), which offered large club heads and forgiving sweet spots for high-handicap golfers.

Cleveland Drivers: 2010-2019

This 2010s era highlighted Cleveland’s evergrowing focus on combining distance, forgiveness, and adjustability for reliable tee shots.

The Classic XL (2012) and the 588 Custom (2014) exemplified this, offering large sweet spots and adjustable features for tailored play.

Following on, the Launcher series made a comeback with models like the Launcher HB (2017) and Launcher HB Turbo (2019). These featured advanced technologies like Turbocharged Cup Faces and low CG for enhanced performance.

Cleveland’s extended the Launcher legacy with its latest driver release: the Launcher XL. This model first became available for purchase in 2021.

The Launcher XL driver boasts the highest MOI in Cleveland’s history, catering to a wide range of golfers with their forgiving nature and ease of use.

In 2022, the Launcher XL Lite was introduced. This iteration targeted golfers with slower swing speeds, offering a lighter and faster swinging experience.
