Mizuno has been producing golf clubs since the 1930s, with a focus on drivers since the 1980s. With four decades of experience the brand has consistently produced solid drivers for a variety of skill levels. The latest ST 230 lineup provides a reliable and forgiving option for any golfer.

Mizuno Drivers: 1980-1999

Having produced irons for decades prior, the Mizuno driver journey begins in 1986 with the TP5 Persimmon Driver. Persimmon wood was a popular choice for drivers at the time, chosen for its natural feel and responsiveness off the face.

Shortly after, the Mizuno Altron Driver was introduced. This driver featured a graphite head and shaft combination, marking a step towards modern materials.

In 1993, Mizuno released the TPW 19 Hot Metal Driver. This period continued the transition from traditional wood to metal drivers, a significant technological leap in golf. The “Hot Metal” suggested a focus on improved distance and ball speed.

Mizuno launched the T-Zoid T3 Titanium Driver in 1998. By the late ’90s, titanium became the material of choice for drivers, offering both strength and lightness for faster ball speeds and distance.

Mizuno Drivers: 2000-2009

In 2000, the Mizuno T-Zoid Forged Titanium Driver was introduced. The use of forged titanium drew comparison to the refined manufacturing process used in Mizuno irons. This encouraged improved feel and control off the clubface.

The following year, the 300S Driver was launched. This model was used by Vijay Singh to great effect, before the model was released to the general public.

In 2003, Mizuno introduced the MP 001 Driver. This model was all about SIZE, with a jumbo head to provide maximum confidence behind the ball. At the time, this was a great value driver compared to the big-name brands.

In the late 2000s, models like the MX 500, MX 560, and MP 600 introduced more aerodynamic, modern designs along with customization options.

Mizuno Drivers: 2010-2019

In 2010, Mizuno launched the MP 630 series. This included the MP 630 and a Fast Track version, which had an adjustable weight system to alter ball flight.

Two years later, the successor was released: the MP 650. Once again, this model focused on adjustable weights to fine-tune ball flight characteristics.

Between 2013 and 2016, the JPX series was Mizuno’s driver focus. These were known for blending power with playability, including models like the JPX EZ, JPX 825, and JPX 850. Each improved on the aerodynamics and face technology.

Toward the end of the decade, Mizuno launched the ST180, GT180, and ST190 series. These drivers used complex materials and advanced design features like wave sole technology and more sophisticated weight distribution systems.

Mizuno Drivers: 2020-Present

The most recent series, including the ST200, ST-G, ST-X, and ST-Z lines, symbolize the pinnacle of Mizuno’s golf technology.

This lineup introduced innovations in adjustability, materials engineering, and face technology to maximize distance and accuracy off the tee.

The Mizuno ST-Z 230 Driver is a very strong all-round performer. Suitable for most golfers, it offers excellent stability, forgiveness, and explosive speed.
