FootJoy has been a mainstay in the golf shoe industry for decades.

Now, the brand has collaborated with upcoming lifestyle brand Malbon Golf for an exclusive version of its popular Traditions golf shoe.

Malbon is hot on the golf scene, having recently signed top names like Jason Day and Charley Hull in its pursuit of encapsulating the world of golf.

In this review, we put the Malbon x FootJoy Traditions to the test.

First Impressions

Out of the box, the Traditions golf shoe looks as expected — traditional!

While this pair wouldn’t look out of place at a country club, it’s also versatile enough to work with pants or shorts for a more relaxed round of golf.

For this review, I was sent a pair in the triple white colorway. The shoe upper is made from genuine full-grain leather, which is fully waterproof.

Subtle contrast in the leather design is provided by the brogue-style overlay panels, found in the midsection and at the rear of the shoe.

This model takes on a classic golf shoe aesthetic.

One thing that surprised me (in a good way) is that they are very lightweight.

This is largely helped by the foam midsole, offering weight savings while providing good cushioning underfoot. The high-density EVA footbed adds further comfort.

Moving onto the sole, the Traditions shoe features Softspikes for traction.

The sole of the shoe features Softspikes for added traction.

Specifically, it uses a Fast Twist 3.0 cleat system with Pulsar spikes. This is a low-profile, flexible spike that provides great traction on the golf course while enabling the shoe to be worn comfortably indoors and on hard cart path surfaces.

The Softspikes are doing the heavy lifting, without too much grip on offer by the sole beneath. Aesthetically, the green tones highlight the spikes very nicely.

With many traditional golf shoes, a structured heel can often be aggravating and cause blisters on first wear — particularly when walking 18 holes.

Thankfully, the Traditions is comfortable right from the start. The built-in achilles pad provides padded support, limiting the risk of blisters.

Also, the Traditions shoe fits true to size with a standard width.

The built-in achilles pad offers great comfort through 18 holes.

I also appreciate the subtle branding on the shoe. It’s distinctly Malbon, yet doesn’t detract from the clean design of the FootJoy silhouette.

The Malbon script logo is embroidered toward the rear of the shoe, as well as on the heel tab. On the tongue sits the playful Malbon x FootJoy “Buckets” logo.

Final Thoughts

The Malbon x FootJoy Traditions offer classic styling with lightweight comfort.

After 18 holes, your feet will appreciate the lightness of the shoe. In addition, the genuine leather uppers add a touch of class, and will age well over time.

If you’re after a traditional yet lightweight pair of golf shoes, these are a top pick.
